About Us
Deaf Link Uganda (DLU) was founded in October 2007 by Nassozi B. Kiyaga. The organisation began as a Community Based Organisation (CBO) working with deaf and hard of hearing people within the Central region. In 2017 it was upgraded to a non-government organisation to widen its reach-out services to a wider population Deaf people in Uganda. DLU focuses on the social model of Deafness, recognising the uniqueness and potentials of each individual. Intervention programmes aim to promote access to education, employment, social integration and cultural development, working with the Deaf to overcome barriers that impede their growth and development. In uplifting the lives of Deaf individuals, we uphold our Mission and Vision, celebrating our Human Diversity.
Our Vision
Promote inclusion and enable deaf and hard-of-hearing people to realise their full potentials so as to lead productive and dignified lives.
Our Mission
Create access to education, economic, social and cultural opportunities that advance the welfare of deaf and hard of hearing people in Uganda.
Our Name
Deaf Link Uganda signifies our desire to link and connect deaf and hard of hearing people in Uganda, Africa, and the rest of the world—connections that celebrate our human diversity and unify Deaf and hearing communities. Central to our work is commitment to strengthen links by enhancing networks with organisations of persons who are Deaf, Disabled People’s Organisations and the world.
Our Logo
The triangular form of our logo symbolises connections we make with people all over the world. At the top is a Deaf child rising from a strong, nurturing foundation of love shared with parents, families, friends, and communities. The red arrow encircling the triangle is the link that connects us all as a human race.
